After leaving the family jewellery business to study ceramic design Charlotte Mcleish quickly realised she did not want to reject her jewellery past completely but instead she wanted her ceramic work to reflect it. Drawing on techniques and skills she had learnt as a goldsmith Charlotte often incorporates metal into designs. The combination of metal with monochrome colours gives her work a masculine tailored quality.
Mcleish finds inspiration in a wide range of sources,in particular historical artefacts and antiques. She became fascinated by the history and furnishings that surrounded during her time spent working for the national trust. Using historic objects as a starting point to her work Charlotte combines them with strong colours and sharp lines to create contemporary functional pieces that offer a nostalgic take on every day objects.
